Dave Writes: I bought Rick's Nieuport 12 which was originally sporting a Virago Yamaha 80 hp V2 engine.

Terms of sale required me to provide an engine and $$$.

Rick and I put our heads together and designed the installation.

We work well together and enjoyed the project.

Maybe we could label the project : "Dave Lillie's Circa Nieuport 12 by Rick Giles" ?

Here are a few pictures of the Engine mount in progress.

I plan to have the mount all tacked up for final welding by Monday.

Then it is on to Firewall design.

Hi Jim,

Here are a few current photos of the engine refit of the Circa Nieuport 12 completed in 1993 by Mr. Rick Giles, Freeport, Illinois.USA.

The aircraft was originally certified with a Yamaha Virago motorcycle engine. Next time she leaves the ground it will be powered by a Rotec R2800 Revision B engine.

Completion is anticipated by late spring (fall down under).

03 Apr 2007: Thirteen U.S. Gallon gasoline tank is welded. Oil tank goes to the welder today.

13 Gallon Tank in position .Access panel to fuel tank outlet .Oil tank in prep for welding..Oil tank ready for welding.

22nd June 2007: Engine recessed into firewall & access to accessories - provision for flow through ventilation - finishing flow through fairing.

At the moment the plane is complete and ground testing is about to commence - couldn't help myself and had to bring forward the pics of the finished craft, these though a bit fuzzy show a sensationally finished aircraft. Goto the top of the page to view.
